In 2016, Paydock embraced the borderless tech team model and hired a handful of Ivy Tech’s engineers to develop the initial MVP. Today, Paydock’s payments orchestration platform services global banks and enterprise merchants. 4 of the original engineers from 2016 remain, and the team has grown to 30+ Ivy Tech IT professionals.

The Client

Paydock is a series-A funded, enterprise-grade payments orchestration platform, headquartered in London. Paydock focuses on reducing compliance, technical and administrative costs and, at the same time, improving the overall payment experience through a set of supportive tooling to remove friction and inefficiency from deploying scalable payment strategies.

Recruitment

They approached Ivy Tech in 2016 to put a small, dedicated tech team of affordable and committed engineers in Eastern Europe together that would be solely focused on building the first product while Paydock maintained ownership of the IP and of the technical direction at all times.

Feedback

The trust in Ivy Tech’s hiring and management capabilities led Paydock to extend their hiring briefs beyond software developer candidate profiles to profiles such as customer support representatives, technical product managers, project managers, UI/UX designers, site reliability engineers and business analysts.

Paydock Today

Since Paydock’s successful Series A in 2023, we have facilitated multiple contractor buy-outs and relocations to ensure Paydock’s team members can work in a structure that serves the organisation best.

The Challenge

In 2016 Paydock was in the early stage of building out its payments orchestration platform for early client adoption.

Paydock faced two failed attempts of hiring offshore as well as onshore being left with no code or product. They approached Ivy Tech in 2016 to put a small, dedicated tech team of affordable and committed engineers in Eastern Europe together that would be solely focused on building the first product while Paydock maintained ownership of the IP and the technical direction at all times.

Paydock wanted full control and product ownership and, at the same time, total commitment and ambition from their devs. They furthermore needed full contract flexibility to scale up as soon as capital rounds close or downscale if capital is delayed. Lastly, they needed a local partner they could trust since they moved 90% of their dev workforce to Eastern Europe, known for their skill in creating deep tech code.

Client Since

The Solution

After receiving Paydock’s initial brief in 2016, we put together a borderless team of a solution architect, full stack, front end, back end developer and one QA. This young but passionate team created the first version of the Paydock platform including making the product PCI DSS compliant.

After the successful launch of the payments orchestration platform, first customer acquisitions and seed round funding, Paydock consistently grew their team with us.

The trust in Ivy Tech’s hiring and management capabilities led Paydock to extend their hiring briefs beyond software developer candidate profiles to profiles such as customer support representatives, technical product managers, project managers, UI/UX designers, site reliability engineers and business analysts.

As in most Startup stories, there were times when Paydock needed to pause hiring or scale down the team which we were able to accommodate immediately thanks to our flexible contracts.

IP protection was always at the forefront of our client’s mind and we’ve doubled down on IP clauses and legal opinions to ensure the client’s IP sits with them at all times.

On many occasions, we were able to host Paydock’s founder and CEO Rob Lincolne in our developer hub so he could spend time with his dev team in person. These were some of the highlights in our journey with Paydock and have led to more loyalty amongst team members and a deeper trust between the client and ourselves.

Since Paydock’s successful Series A in 2023, we have facilitated multiple contractor buy-outs and relocations to ensure Paydock’s team members can work in a structure that serves the organisation best.

The Result

Paydock’s partnership with Ivy Tech made the Paydock product possible due to an early cost-effective and flexible software development solution.

The payment orchestration platform has closed a substantial Series A in 2023, services Enterprise clients such as banks and large financial services groups, and keeps growing their overall headcount globally into the hundreds. Over the years, many of Paydock’s early team members have been promoted from their Junior roles to “Head of”, are client-facing or have received relocation opportunities to London and other prestigious cities.

Paydock’s team now boasts 30+ IT professionals across 9 countries, and we couldn’t be more thankful for what a wonderful client Paydock has been over these many years.
